Newcastle won a third league game in a row for the first time in over three years as they triumphed 1-0 over Aston Villa to move four points clear of the relegation zone.

January signing Kieran Trippier found the net with a free-kick for the second match in succession and his 35th-minute strike proved the difference as the Magpies held on for a clean sheet. 

Ollie Watkins believed he had equalised for Villa in the second half, but his close-range header was ruled out for offside by a VAR check.
