Kieran Trippier has vowed to work hard as he can on his rehab after X-ray scans confirmed he had fractured his foot.

The 31-year-old scored the only goal of the game as Newcastle beat Aston Villa on Sunday but he had to be substituted in the second half due to the injury.

In a statement, Newcastle said the full back underwent an X-ray immediately and was found to have fractured the fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot.

The injury, which is likely to keep Trippier sidelined for some time, was a particularly big blow considering the run of form he is in. He has scored two goals in as many games. 

Trippier took to Instagram where he described the injury as ‘really frustrating’ but vowed to work hard on his rehab. 

‘It’s really frustrating to have picked up the injury in yesterday’s win,’ he wrote alongside him sat on the St James Park pitch and a screenshot of the club’s statement.

‘We’ve built some momentum and long may that continue.

‘Injuries are a part of football and I will remain positive, work as hard as I can on my rehab to be back fit as quickly as possible playing in front of you fans.

With Trippier’s help, Newcastle have put a run of three consecutive wins together and lifted themselves out of the relegation zone.

They are currently four points ahead of 18th-placed Norwich having played a game more and face West Ham, Brentford and Brighton in their next three games.
