Police officer is investigated for kicking football fan after Premier League match ‘to try to get a reaction’

A police officer is being investigated by his own forcer after film showed him kicking a football fan after a Premier League clash.

The supporter was walking down the street after Wolverhampton Wanderers faced Arsenal when the policeman came up behind him.

It was then the officer took a swipe at him before booting his heel.

Onlookers feared the officer was trying to goad the young fan who managed to stay on his feet.

West Midlands Police has now launched a probe into the ugly scene at 9:55pm close to Wolves’ Molineux Stadium last Thursday night after the match.

One Gunners fan who attended the match – which the North London side won 1-0 – was shocked at what he witnessed.

He said: ‘A higher ranked police officer kicking a fan to try to get a reaction.

‘The officer was clearly trying to get a reaction so he could arrest him for reacting.

‘Imagine if it was the other way around.’

In the seven-second clip, one supporter can be heard saying: ‘He’s kicked him for no reason.’

The uniformed officer puts his hand up appearing to apologise to the fan – believed to follow Wolves – for his actions.

Cops said they had been dealing with reports of anti-social behaviour at the top flight match.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: ‘The force is aware of a section of footage which was taken following the recent Wolves v Arsenal fixture.

‘It comes after we tried to engage with a small number of fans suspected of being involved in anti-social behaviour.

‘Our Professional Standards Department are aware of the footage and will be conducting a review to establish the full context.’
