Marriage FIRST LOOK: Sean Bean and Nicola Walker star in new BBC drama as they take on roles of an embattled husband and wife


Three first look images have been released of Sean Bean and Nicola Walker in new BBC drama Marriage.

The stills show the stars, who play couple Ian and Emma, as they go about their daily life. 

The four-part drama depicts a close-up portrait of a married relationship and all its highs and lows.

It shows them dealing with the insecurities, ambiguities, hopes and fears that are part of all marriages.  

Ian and Emma will navigate the risks and advantages that a long-term relationship brings in the moving and revealing tale.  

One image shows the couple  outside their home and another showing them embracing and gazing into one another’s eyes.

One more snap shows the couple carrying out their everyday errands as they go shopping at the supermarket.

Actor James Bolam, 86, will also star as the character of Emma’s father Gerry, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, 36, will appear as Emma’s boss Jamie, while Chantelle Alle will portray Ian and Emma’s daughter Jessica.

Sean, 62, previously told the BBC: ‘I’m thrilled to be playing opposite the talented Nicola Walker and I’m looking forward to bringing Stefan’s intimate scripts to the screen.’  

Nicola, 51, said: ‘This is a unique project. Stefan has created such a beautiful, funny and complicated world and I’m excited to be stepping into Ian and Emma’s marriage with Sean.’

The series is written by two time Bafta award-winning writer and director Stefan Golaszewski.

He said: ‘It’s amazing to get to work with Sean and Nicola. They’re actors of such depth, truth and warmth and I can’t wait to go on this journey with them.’  

Filming has completed and Marriage will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year.
