  • City are thought to be keen on recruiting a new left back this summer
  • But Pep Guardiola will reportedly face competition from Chelsea and Spurs

Manchester City are weighing up the potential signing of Crystal Palace left back Tyrick Mitchell, according to reports.

Mitchell is enjoying an impressive breakthrough season at Selhurst Park, having missed just eight minutes of action so far, and he has put in some steely displays under Patrick Vieira to help keep the team out of relegation danger.

His performances have earned him a first call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad ahead of friendlies against Switzerland and the Ivory Coast this week.

And Pep Guardiola’s City have now taken notice, according to the Sun, who claim the 22-year-old has made the Spaniard’s transfer shortlist as he searches for a new left back.

City won’t be alone in their interest in Mitchell, however, with Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle also reportedly having a look at him.

While moving to a club in the top six will be a huge appeal to Mitchell as he looks to further increase his profile, the player is understood to be ‘loving life’ under the guidance of Vieira, who has boosted Palace this season and taken them to the FA Cup semi-finals.

Palace have a good track record of producing top talent, and will be asking for a hefty sum to part with another player of huge potential.

Mitchell grew up in Harrow before joining the youth ranks of AFC Wembley and later Brentford – who were forced to let him go in 2016.

Crystal Palace ended up taking a chance on him the same year, and he has gone on to feature 57 times for the Eagles.

After calling him up to his Three Lions squad, Southgate said:  ‘He’s been very good with his defending. He gets out quickly to people and in the biggest games against top opponents he’s coped really well.’

Having grown up in Brent, near Wembley, Mitchell admitted it will be a dream to turn out for England.

‘It’s a dream come true. I never thought it would happen so quick.

‘I’m over the moon. I found out on Monday, I got the text and I was lost for words.

‘I was waiting for it to be announced and then I told (my mum). That’s one of her dreams to see me play at Wembley.’
