Byron Bay locals are spewing over rumours a second season of Byron Baes is coming soon to Netflix: ‘This is not what we’re about at all’

Byron Bay locals are in uproar over rumours Netflix is about to renew controversial docu-soap Byron Baes for a second season.

The show, which follows the lives of several influencers living and working in the area, has angered many in the NSW coastal town, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Members of the tight-knit community have come forward to criticise the streaming giant for commissioning a show they claim misrepresents the region.

Unrealistic portrayal: Byron Bay locals are in uproar over rumours Netflix is about to renew controversial docu-soap Byron Baes for a second season

One local complained the series pushes an unfair stereotype of Byron Bay as a place filled with New Age careerists interested only in money and a luxury lifestyle.

Audrey Lohr, who grew up in the town, found Byron Baes insulting, unrealistic, exaggerated and overly dramatic.

‘It is not what Byron is about at all,’ Ms Lohr told the newspaper.

Brazilian-born Amanda Hasson, who came to Byron 10 years ago, said she would welcome a reality show about the real Byron Bay, but not Netflix’s warped version.

‘There is a housing crisis in Byron Bay,’ said Ms Hasson, who watched all eight episodes of the show despite feeling it did not represent her community accurately.

‘I would like to see the truth [about Byron Bay]… with the community being generous and working together,’ she added.

Reviews for Byron Baes have been terrible.

The most scathing blast came from a TV Blackbox writer, who declared: ‘The stink is so bad, I can’t wash it off. I can’t wash it off!’

‘If there’s one group that I detest, it’s bloody influencers, so I can’t stand this show… I’m just very excited to never watch that show, ever,’ they added.
