Radio host Ben Fordham tricks his bosses and thousands of listeners with a VERY cruel April Fools prank that left them thinking he was seriously injured

  • Ben Fordham has tricked thousands listeners into thinking he fell off a racehorse
  • The April Fools prank even had top brass at 2GB radio fooled and in concern
  • Messages started flooding for Fordham with fears he was seriously injured

A cruel but hilarious April Fools prank by Ben Fordham has caused panic among listeners and top 2GB brass, who were tricked into thinking the radio presenter had fallen off a racehorse.

Fordham normally starts the breakfast program with a round-up of the news and what’s ahead, but this time sports presenter James Willis took the microphone to kick things off.

In a concerned tone, he told listeners the show was being broadcast from Royal Randwick Racecourse in Sydney in the lead up to the Star Championships this weekend and that Ben had been thrown off a racehorse in the early hours of the morning.

‘Now I want to stress Ben is OK … but these horses can take off at full place and if you don’t know what you’re doing you can be in a little bit of trouble,’ Willis said on air.

‘I’ve got to stress Ben is OK, he’s fine now we’re just trying to work out a few things here in the meantime.’

The stand-in host then cut to a traffic report before Fordham let everyone in on the joke.

‘Good morning, it’s April 1 2022, this is Ben Fordham,’ he said.

‘I think April 1 says it all,’ Willis added.

The two broke out laughing and explained how worried listeners and even top executives were calling and messaging to see if Fordham was okay.

One concerned senior manager even phoned into the station to find out what was going on and why the star broadcaster was not on the air.

Fellow 2GB presenter Ray Hadley even ‘sprinted upstairs’ at the Pyrmont office to ask the show’s producers if he needed to fill in for Fordham.

‘We’re getting all sorts of messages this morning. Has Ben fallen off a horse? Is he in the hospital?’ Fordham said.

Willis, second-guessing the on-air stitch-up, pointed the finger squarely at Fordham saying: ‘When management asks about who was behind that, are you throwing me under the bus?’

The pair burst out laughing and eventually got on with the rest of the show.
