Derbyshire Live reported that a police officer had said: ‘Please bear with us this evening whilst we try and ‘digest’ this issue.

‘A lorry load of McVitie’s finest have decided to abandon ship causing a slight obstruction!’

Drivers luckily saw the funny side of the incident, joking with officers as they passed the biscuit mountain.

Many quipped: ‘Give us a biscuit’ but a large number of the gingery and chocolatey treats had landed in horse poo.

Officers have said that the entire load needs to be binned due to contamination.
