Hugh Jackman reveals tasty dessert he made to woo Deborra-Lee Furness

Love at first bite! Hugh Jackman reveals the elaborate French dessert he made for wife Deborra-Lee Furness to ‘woo her’ when they met

He’s been happily married to his doting wife Deborra-Lee Furness since 1996.

And Hugh Jackman, 53, revealed how he made his first move on the actress, 66, in an unearthed interview – which involved ‘wooing’ her with a tasty dessert his father had taught him to make.

Hugh had met Deb on the set of Australian TV show Correlli in 1995, and decided to reveal he was ‘crushing’ on her while the pair perfected a delicious Crêpes Suzette together at his dinner party.

Love at first bite! Hugh Jackman revealed how he made his first move on his wife Deborra-Lee Furness in an unearthed interview – which involved ‘wooing’ her with a tasty dessert his father had taught him to make

‘[Deborra] came over and I said, ‘Deb, give me a hand with the dessert.’ My dad was a great cook, and he taught me how to make Crêpes Suzette. It’s a good hour to make Crêpes Suzette,’ he told People magazine in 2017.

Crêpes Suzette is a French dessert made of crêpes with beurre Suzette, a sauce of caramelized sugar and butter, orange or tangerine juice, and zest with Grand Marnier, triple sec or orange Curaçao liqueur on top which is flambéed tableside.

As soon as the duo were alone in the kitchen with the dessert in front of them, Hugh said to Deborra-Lee: ‘I’ve got a crush on you. I’ll get over it, I’m sorry.’

He continued: ‘She goes, ‘Oh? Because I’ve got a crush on you too.’ I never in a million years thought she reciprocated.’

After moving to the US in the early 2000s they adopted two children – son Oscar, now 20, and daughter Ava, now 15.

It comes after Deborra-Lee was recently named an Officer (AO) of the Order of Australia in January, for her work as an adoption advocate and service to the arts.

Praise: 'For almost 30 years, I've witnessed first hand her endless generosity and commitment to service. Her intolerance for injustice and her heart which is as large as our great country,' Hugh wrote, after his wife was recently named an Officer (AO) of the Order of Australia

And to mark the occasion, actor Hugh shared a sweet tribute to his wife to say how ‘proud’ he is of her.

‘So proud of Deb! Today she was named an Officer (AO) of the Order of Australia,’ Hugh wrote on Instagram last month.

‘For almost 30 years, I’ve witnessed first hand her endless generosity and commitment to service. Her intolerance for injustice and her heart which is as large as our great country.’

‘Today, everyone else gets to understand and appreciate her incredible work.’

He went on to call her the ‘greatest actress he’s ever worked with’.
