Sky Sports reporter Gary Cotterill has bizarrely told Erik ten Hag to ‘learn’ from his compatriot Louis van Gaal after the Manchester United manager rejected his persistent attempts to interview him following his new club’s defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Cotterill posted a picture of him alongside Van Gaal soon after he had spoken to the Dutchman following his appointment as United boss in 2014.
‘A Dutch manager’s reaction to being asked a question in the street by sky reporter AFTER getting the Manchester United job. But BEFORE taking up the role,’ Cotterill wrote.

In an earlier tweet, the journalist posted a video of Ten Hag shaking the hands of United correspondents before his unveiling as manager of the Old Trafford club at a press conference on Monday.
‘I can feel the Ten Hag sincerity from London,’ Cotterill wrote in a sarcastic caption to accompany the footage.
Veteran reporter Cotterill had been criticised on social media after he pestered Ten Hag for an interview following United’s 1-0 loss to Palace at Selhurst Park.
The incident occurred after Ten Hag had attended United’s 1-0 defeat to Palace on Sunday
Footage shown on Sky Sports depicts Cotterill trying to catch a word with the Dutchman but is prevented from doing so by a member of Ten Hag’s security.
‘Don’t push me, you’re on television,’ Cotterill said, before he addresses Ten Hag by saying: ‘It doesn’t look good being manhandled by security, Erik. It’s Man United…it is a big club.’
The security guard stops Cotterill from speaking to Ten Hag and the 52-year-old then gets into a car and drives away from the stadium.
Some will feel Ten Hag was well within his rights to ignore the Sky Sports reporter seeing as he had not officially started at United and the Palace match was Ralf Rangnick’s last in interim charge of the club.

Cotterill was also previously rebuffed by Ten Hag in Amsterdam shortly after he was confirmed as United boss
One Twitter user said: ‘Gary was being an absolute desperate beg shoving the mic in his face trying to push his way through. Very strange behaviour. Well done Ten Hag.’
Others called him ‘extremely unprofessional’ and ’embarrassing’ as they backed Ten Hag’s refusal to engage.
The incident outside Selhurst Park was the second time Ten Hag had waved off Cotterill.
Shortly after Ten Hag had been confirmed as the new United manager, Cotterill put a microphone through the Dutchman’s car window in Amsterdam but he ignored it and drove off.
