Manchester City fans booed the Premier League anthem before their game against Aston Villa – after being charged 115 times for allegedly breaching financial rules.

After hearing the charges, the club responded swiftly – making it clear that they wanted to challenge the allegations as they insisted they ‘look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all.’

Their fans responded with the same spirit and made it clear to the Premier League that they don’t agree with their course of action.

As soon as the Premier League anthem began – City fans instantly began booing.

The fans then turned their support towards boss Pep Guardiola – who staunchly defended his club during his first press conference following the allegations.

Guardiola said: ‘We were not part of the establishment, they can do it but the only thing I regret is that they should let us have the chance to defend ourselves.

‘Everyone is innocent until proven guilty, but it didn’t happen. Who is going to return the damage (caused by) the articles.’

The 52-year-old was incredibly defiant and remained totally committed to defending his club’s innocence.

The City boss continued: ‘It is impossible so after the courts will dictate what happens and after what will happen I am fully convinced we will be innocent.’

Manchester City fans also unveiled a new banner at the Etihad in support of the lawyer representing them against the 115 charges.

The banner read: ‘Pannick on the streets of London’ – referencing Lord David Pannick KC the club’s lawyer.
