The Crown star 46, ditched 1960s ensembles for swimwear as she tapped into the character of Leda, whose beach holiday takes a dark turn when she starts confronting her past.
The drama film, based on Elena Ferrante’s 2006 book of the same name, will mark fellow screen star Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut and is set for release in 2021.

Actress Olivia was dressed in a black one-piece and swimming trunks as she sat on a deck chair, surrounded by cast and crew.
Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota, 31, meanwhile, was also seen wearing beachwear, before she switched into a more casual outfit.
The thespian, who portrays Nina in the movie, later sported a pink vest and grey joggers as she chatted to her co-star Oliver Jackson-Cohen.
Oliver, 33, cut an equally low-key appearance as he donned a black sleeveless top and dark shorts.

The Irish heartthrob confirmed his role on Twitter in August, gushing: ‘I’m a very excited boy!’.
Maggie, 42, was every inch the busy director as she instructed cast and crew throughout the day.

The Deuce actress has also written the script for the hotly-anticipated film, which will see her husband Peter Sarsgaard and Chernobyl star Jessie Buckley make appearances too.
The Favourite star Olivia’s character is a divorcee and college professor who becomes obsessed with a young mother (Dakota) and a daughter after her own children decide to leave her and live with their father in Canada.
In the book, Leda spends the summer in an Italian seaside town, while the movie is being filmed in the Greek island of Spetses.

Maggie said in a statement to Variety at the time: ‘When I finished reading Elena Ferrante’s The Lost Daughter, I felt that something secret and true had been said out loud. And I was both disturbed and comforted by that.
‘I immediately thought how much more intense the experience would be in a movie theatre, with other people around. And I set to work on this adaptation.
‘I find that the script has attracted other people interested in exploring these secret truths about motherhood, sexuality, femininity, desire. And I’m thrilled to continue my collaboration with such brave and exciting actors and filmmakers.’

Writer Elena recently told the Guardian that she’d like the World Trade Center star to take the reins with her adaptation.
She said: ‘I don’t want to say: you have to stay inside the cage that I constructed. We’ve been inside the male cage for too long – and now that that cage is collapsing, a woman artist has to be absolutely autonomous.
‘Her search shouldn’t encounter obstacles, especially when it’s inspired by the work, by the thought, of other women.’
