Beloved Australian actress Betty Bobbitt has died at the age of 81 following a ‘major stroke’.

The actress, who was a founding cast member of Prisoner and played lesbian character Judy Bryant, had spent five nights in palliative care in hospital before passing away on Monday.

Her son, Christopher Hill, delivered the tragic news on Facebook, writing: ‘Sadly Mum passed away this morning at 10:20 am after 5 nights in hospital.

‘She was peaceful and in no pain. Thank you for your support and apologies if I can’t respond to everyone but I will try. I will post more later.’

He had revealed on Wednesday that she had suffered the stroke, writing: ‘We are hugely devastated and struggling to come to terms with such a sudden event. 

‘My mum has been a legend, an inspiration, a mentor and icon for so many. 

‘She is comfortable and not in any pain that we can tell, but the prognosis is not good. She is not expected to recover.’

In her career, Betty also starred in Crocodile Dundee, as well as TV shows such as A Country Practice, All Saints and Blue Heelers.
