Former Goldman Sachs investment banker pleads guilty to insider trading

A former Goldman Sachs investment banker linked to an insider trading ring has admitted fraud.

US prosecutors say Bryan Cohen, 33, passed confidential information about mergers to a trader in Switzerland.

Cohen, who worked for Goldman in London and in New York, masked his activities, using ‘burner’ phones, speaking in code and receiving cash through intermediaries, it is claimed.

In New York yesterday the Frenchman pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit securities fraud. His accomplice profited by making ‘timely’ trades.

He is one of six people connected to the ring.

Securities trader Joseph El-Khouri, London bankers and couple Benjamin Taylor and Darina Windsor, Greek businessman Georgios Nikas and Telemaque Lavidas, have also been charged.

El-Khouri was arrested in the UK and could be extradited, while authorities say Taylor, Windsor and Nikas ‘remain at large’.
