EXCLUSIVE: ‘I’m just a private guy, full stop!’ Ryan Kwanten reveals why he prefers to keep out of the spotlight… as he recalls working with Home and Away legend Ray Meagher

He’s the former Home and Away star-turned-Hollywood heartthrob.

And while Ryan Kwanten’s star continues to rise, the Australian born actor does a pretty good job of keeping his life behind the camera private.

‘I’m just a private guy full stop,’ Ryan, 43, told the Daily Mail Australia on Wednesday.

‘I try and put all the drama into my life on screen and leave my life outside of it as drama-free as I can,’ he continued.

‘I think the more people know about me the less inclined they are to believe the character that I play… I want to portray as much truth into that character as I can, so for me the more they know about me the harder I have to work,’ Ryan added.

Ryan starred as Jason Stackhouse on True Blood, between 2008 to 2014.

He is most recognisable to Australian and UK fans from the long-running series Home and Away, where he starred as Vinnie Patterson from 1997 to 2002.

Recalling his time on the drama, Ryan recalled working with Summer Bay icon Ray Meagher, better known as Alf Stewart.

‘Ray was like a lighthouse for me, he was pretty amazing and I know [that] he was with anyone that’s worked with him as a young actor,’ he said.

Next up, Ryan will return to screens in Sacred Lies, which follows Elise (Jordan Alexander) as she searches for the family she never knew.

The Facebook Watch Original is heavily inspired by the Brothers Grimm’s The Singing Bone, with real crime cases weaved into the fictitious story.

In the series, Ryan plays Peter, Elise’s father, who is currently incarcerated in prison.

Meanwhile, actress Juliette Lewis plays Harper, a telemarketer-turned-amateur detective who has made a lifestyle out of searching for unidentified murder victims.
