Piers Morgan slams Bloomberg for ‘appalling abuse of power over 2,700 employees of his media company

Piers Morgan has slammed Michael Bloomberg for his ‘appalling abuse of power’ over employees of his media company during Wednesday’s night episode of Tucker Carlson Tonight.

During his appearance on Carlson’s show, the host asked Morgan: ‘Why is the media, and they are, unmistakably promoting Mike Bloomberg?’

Aside from the obvious reason of getting President Donald Trump out of the White House, Morgan said that the media doesn’t actually care how many of their liberal values ‘get trampled in the process’.

Morgan then pointed at Bloomberg’s news organization, Bloomberg News.

'However, to make it really fair, all 2,700 journalists can investigate Donald Trump,' Morgan said. 'That is an appalling abuse of power,' Morgan added. Bloomberg is seen Wednesday night during the debate

‘There is one that really sticks in my gut and it’s this. He owns and runs one of the biggest news organizations in the world, Bloomberg news. And until now, pretty respected in a pretty impartial, respected as a news organization,’ Morgan began.

Morgan told Carlson that the former New York mayor ‘has ordered’ all 2,700 journalists who work for him ‘not to investigate him while he is running for president’.

‘To make it fair, he says, they can’t investigate the other Democrat candidates, either. However, to make it really fair, all 2,700 journalists can investigate Donald Trump,’ Morgan said.

The Daily Mail editor-at-large said that Bloomberg, who is the CEO of Bloomberg News, is ‘basically ordering a hit on Donald Trump’ in an effort to ‘protect his blanket around himself and perhaps any other Democrat candidates’.

‘That is an appalling abuse of power,’ Morgan said. ‘It is degrading to every journalist that works at Bloomberg News.’

He went on to say: ‘I cannot believe that ‘there is not more of a fury about this amongst mainstream media until I remember that mainstream media is so pathologically opposed to Donald Trump and so desperate to get rid of him that they are prepared to tolerate, effectively the gagging of Bloomberg News in a way that even Vladimir Putin probably wouldn’t try.’

Morgan wasn’t the only one to eviscerate Bloomberg Wednesday night.

During the evening’s Democratic debate in Las Vegas, presidential candidate, Elizabeth Warren, landed the opening punch on Bloomberg when she questioned him about his stop-and-frisk policy when he was mayor and signing women to non-disclosure agreements.

‘I’d like to talk about who we’re running against, a billionaire who calls women fat broads and horse-faced lesbians,’ Warren said. ‘And no I’m not talking about Donald Trump, I’m talking about Mayor Bloomberg.’

Warren hit the former mayor even harder when it came to his refusal to release women from the nondisclosure agreements with his company regarding complaints of a hostile working environment.

She was relentless in her attack on one of Bloomberg’s most vulnerable areas, leaving the former mayor stumbling and fumbling for a response.

It began when Bloomberg was asked about the complaints women have made against his company. He offered a careful response that was filled with many statistics and little explanation.

‘Anybody that does anything wrong in our company, we investigate it and if it’s appropriate, they’re gone that day,’ Bloomberg said.

‘Let me tell you what I do at my company and my foundation and in city government when I was there. In my foundation, the person that runs it is a woman, 70 per cent of the people there are women,’ he added.

‘In my company, lots and lots of women have big responsibilities. They get paid exactly the same as men. In city hall, the top person, my deputy mayor was a woman and 40 per cent of our commissioners were women,’ he said.

Warren then hit him hard.

‘I heard you heard what his defense was. I’ve been nice to some women. That just doesn’t cut it. The mayor has to stand on his record. What we need to know is exactly what’s lurking out there,’ she told the audience.

‘He has gotten some number of women, dozens, who knows, who sign nondisclosure agreements both for sexual harassment and for gender discrimination in the workplace.

‘So, Mr Mayor, are you willing to release all of those women from those nondisclosure agreements so we can hear their side of the story?,’ she asked.

Bloomberg responded: ‘We have a very few nondisclosure agreements.’

Warren also warned that Democrats are not going to win against Trump ‘if we have a nominee who has a history of hiding his tax returns, of supporting racist policies like red-lining and stop and frisk’.

‘I’ll support whoever the Democratic nominee is,’ the Massachusetts senator added.

‘But understand this, Democrats take a huge risk if we just substitute one arrogant billionaire for another.’

Bernie Sanders also slammed Bloomberg over his past ‘racist’ policies that prevent him from building a winning Democratic coalition.

‘In order to beat Donald Trump we’re going to need the largest voter turnout in the history of the United States,’ Sanders said.

‘Mr Bloomberg had policies in New York City of stop and frisk, which went after African-American and Latino people in outrageous ways, that is not a way you can grow voter turnout.’
