Claire Danes braves the drizzle in a puffy black coat as she picks up her son Cyrus, 7, from school

Claire Danes has won two Golden Globe Awards for her captivating performance as Carrie Mathison on Showtimes’ hit drama series Homeland.

But the 40-year-old actress was spotted playing the role of mom for her eldest son Cyrus, when she picked up the seven-year-old after a long day at school in New York City on Tuesday afternoon.

Danes recently reflected on her personal and professional growth during her nearly ten year stint on Homeland with NPR on Thursday.

Danes, carrying her sons myriad of belongings, braved the drizzling day in a stylishly fitted black puffer coat.

The My So Called Life star slipped her slender stems into a pair of black skinny jeans that were neatly tucked into her stylish treaded green rain boots.

Her signature shoulder-length tresses were styled in a neat middle part and flatteringly framed the actress’ visibly makeup-free face.

Cyrus trailed behind his famous mother in an eye catching color blocked raincoat that matched the myriad of polka dots that dressed his quirky umbrella.

Danes shares the seven-year-old with her husband of over 10-years, actor Hugh Dancy.

The couple welcomed a second child to the mix with the birth of their one-year-old son Rowan in 2018.

Danes married her Hollywood colleague in 2009 after falling head-over-heels in love with him during the filming of Evening in 2007, to which the pair both starred.

When Danes started on Homeland she was ‘a barely married person’ and is now ‘leaving the show as a mother of two,’ said the starlet during her NPR sit-down.

‘[We] just celebrated our 10-year wedding anniversary. It’s going to be a while before I can understand and I can appreciate what this is all meant to me. … More than anything, I’m filled with gratitude.’

Homeland premiered in 2011 to instant critical acclaim, particularly for Danes’ performance as the psychologically troubled Central Intelligence Agency officer Carrie Mathison.

On being pregnant with both her children during the filming of the series, Danes discussed the physical hardships she endured.

‘The challenge was just being exhausted all the time and nauseous,’ said Danes, who had a particularly tough time during the first and second trimesters of her pregnancy with son Rowan in 2018.

She recalled a moment during her pregnancy with son Cyrus back in 2013 that made her question her safety.

‘I was handcuffed to a pipe. It was 4 in the morning. I was so tired. And I just thought, “I don’t think this is safe.” This is exactly the opposite of where I want to be.’

Even with the obstacles of pregnancy, Danes would take home numerous career defining awards for her portrayal of Mathison at ceremonies, such as the Screen Actors Guild Awards, the Prime Time Emmy Awards, and the Golden Globes.
