Former royal butler reveals Prince Charles, 71, was a ‘kind, considerate and passionate employer’ and that he and the Duchess of Cornwall are ‘down-to-earth and fun’

A former butler to the royal family has revealed how Prince Charles was ‘a very kind, considerate and passionate employer’ with a ‘great sense of humour’.
Grant Harrold, who was a royal butler between 2004 and 2011, and lives in Gloucestershire, said the Prince of Wales, 71, as well as his wife Camilla, 72, were ‘down-to-earth, normal and fun’.
Speaking to US Weekly, the British etiquette expert said: ‘To actually have somebody like the Prince of Wales as your employer was just an extraordinary situation.

‘And I’m not just saying this, he was a very kind, considerate and passionate employer. It was unbelievable. I used to pinch myself for about a year, because I couldn’t believe it.’
Insisting he had nothing but fond memories of the time he spent waiting on the Prince of Wales, Grant said that the royal had a ‘great sense of humour’.
He also claimed that the heir to the throne and his wife were ‘down-to-earth and normal and fun’.
Grant was previously butler to Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry.

He now runs an etiquette and household consultancy company as well as making regular TV appearances.
Last month, he warned the Duke and Duchess of Sussex ‘cannot afford to get anything wrong’, following the couple’s decision to quit their royal duties.
Grant told talkRADIO: ‘The dangerous bit is, someone said to me the other day, that they’re becoming celebrities. That is not what it’s supposed to be about.
‘Of course part of it becomes about that, but I think they’ve just got to be a bit careful.

‘All that worries me is everyone is watching what’s gone on and they can’t afford to get anything wrong.’
He added: ‘They’ve got to be so careful, I’ve always said this and obviously I’ve had the privilege of working for them and getting to know them.
‘But I think when it comes to this kind of thing, we’ve seen over the years that the public have been very supportive and I think it’s important they’ve just got to get things right.
‘The last thing they want is to do any long lasting kind of damage. Especially the Queen, they’ve done so well at getting everything right, and suddenly we’ve had this extraordinary sequence of events.’
