Australian couple have their entire wedding catered by KFC

Put a wing on it! Couple who had their first date at KFC cater their entire wedding with a banquet from the fast food giant – including a themed cake, buckets of chicken and a food truck

  • Kate and Harrison Cann from Toowoomba, Queensland, got married on Saturday
  • The couple are the first to have their day catered through KFC’s wedding service
  • The Cann’s had their first date at the local fast food restaurant in 2017

An Australian couple have become the first people to have their entire wedding catered by KFC after the fast food restaurant established a ‘wedding service’ in 2019.

Kate and Harrison Cann tied the knot on Saturday at a family property in Toowoomba, Queensland, surrounded by 150 of their closest friends – and none of them were prepared for the Colonel-themed nuptials.

It was a day to remember with personalised KFC buckets, a wedding cake, photo booth, and a food truck serving up plenty of Kentucky Fried Chicken.

The after party was handled by a solo singer organised by the franchise, who kept guests dancing until the early hours of the morning.

For the Canns, who went on their first date at a KFC restaurant in 2017, it was a very special surprise, as they’d only told the company present that this was an engagement party.

‘We’re over the moon to have been selected for the first ever KFC Wedding and having the Colonel present on our big day took us back to the first meal we shared together,’ Kate said.

‘Our friends and family were stunned when they arrived to find out it was actually our wedding day – and not just any wedding but a KFC Wedding.’

The chicken-centric roadside cafe announced its new wedding service in September 2019, saying they would unite six couples with the help of their famous protein.

Nearly 2,000 people entered in an attempt to ‘put a wing on it’ but it was Kate and Harrison’s take on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme tune about their love that secured the first win.

‘We hope it’s a day they will remember for the rest of their lives. We can’t wait to see the next lucky couples have their very own KFC Wedding.’

There are still five couples left to be chosen for the honourable fast food ceremony.
