A mother-of-two has revealed how she feels ‘refreshed’ after bathing in Dettol Antiseptic Liquid once a week, claiming it leaves her skin feeling ‘so fresh.’

Mother-of-two Laura Nicholls, 33, from Bridgend, Wales, baffled social media users when she posted her unusual beauty hack in the Facebook group Mrs Hinch Made Me Do It.  

She claims she puts two capfuls of Dettol Antiseptic Disinfectant liquid in her bath water once a week.   

She went on to tell FEMAIL how she also uses the hack on her son, 8, revealing she bathes him in the liquid ‘if he’s been out playing and gets filthy, or grazes his knees and elbows.’ 

According to the manufacturer’s instructions, Dettol can be used ‘for antibacterial treatment of water used for personal hygiene’, but some critics were not keen on the idea.

Laura said she started using the antiseptic solution ‘years ago’, and swears by the product because she claims it makes her skin feel ‘fresh’. 

Posting online, she wrote: ‘Does anyone else bath in Dettol? Makes you feel so fresh I love it.’ 

She added: ‘It says on the bottle you can use it in the bath and it’s great for cuts.

‘It cleans grazes and it’s really refreshing – I love a Dettol bath – you won’t beat it.

‘It smells lovely I think – I also mop my floors with it.’ 

But the bathing tip has divided opinion, with some people hailing the product for cleansing their skin while others saying they’ve never heard of the trend. 

Sarah Hayles commented on the Facebook post: ‘Twenty-seven years on this earth and I have never heard of people bathing in Dettol – is this actually a thing?’ 

Meanwhile Emily Bernard wrote: ‘Only ever bathe in Dettol if someone in the family has a stomach bug.

‘It’s very rare but I also have a skin condition where I’ll also bathe in it if I flare up – it helps to dry and disinfect it.’ 

However others were not as willing to switch their favourite bath oil for the antiseptic solution. 

Emily Fields said: ‘I’ve heard about this, but I can’t quite bring myself to try it.’

The Dettol Antiseptic Disinfectant liquid states on the bottle that it can be used for ‘first aid, medical and personal hygiene uses’. 

Online, the brand states how the liquid ‘kills bacteria and protects against the germs which can cause infection and illness’.  

It describes how it can also be used for bites, grazes, insect stings and even dandruff, spots and pimples.
