The Pussycat Dolls slam ‘ageism’ as they praise Jennifer Lopez, 50, for helping to create a ‘new era’ for older female performers in pop music

The Pussycat Dolls have hit back at ‘ageism’ in the music industry while praising Jennifer Lopez, 50, for creating a ‘new era’ in music.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph on Saturday, Jessica Sutta, 37, shot down talk of age amid the Burlesque girl group’s reunion tour.

‘There’s more acceptance now,’ Jessica said of the current musical landscape.

‘You’ve got J-Lo at 50 who’s looking at fabulous as ever, and Lizzo who is all about self-love and owning it,’ she added.

‘It’s a new era, and there’s no rules anymore.’

Lead singer Nicole Scherzinger, 41, made similar remarks about the age-obsessed industry to the publication.

‘I mean if there is a time to be more provocative, it’s when you’re grown up, when you’re comfortable in your skin and you fully accept yourself, right?’ she said.

She went on to say inspiring confidence and power has always been the group’s message to their fans.

The Pussycat Dolls recently released their comeback single React, which marks 15 years since their first hit Don’t Cha topped the charts.

The American group did one of their raunchy performances while on Australian morning show Sunrise on Friday, prompting a number of complaints.

On Saturday, Pussycat Dolls singer Kimberley Wyatt, 38, hit back at the objections saying some feminists often misunderstand the group’s sexy image.

‘There are some feminists that come at us with a bit of misunderstanding but feminism takes on many shapes and sizes,’ she told the publication.

‘People have different perspectives on what being a feminist is.’

Amid the outrage of the girls’ performance, Kimberley added she was surprised we ‘weren’t past [getting upset by] this already.’
