Louis Theroux became the first ever baker to receive three handshakes in a Signature Challenge in The Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer.

In last night’s episode of the Channel 4 show, the filmmaker bagged the infamous handshakes for his very first bake – one each from judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, along with another from host Noel Fielding.

And viewers were quick to take to Twitter to praise the much-loved documentarian for his success – before adding they hope he ‘washed his hands afterwards.’

‘Of course Louis Theroux got a handshake. It’s what he deserves,’ praised one, while a second congratulated: ‘Do you think The Great British Bake Off is deliberately teasing us with all these handshakes.’

During the show, the first batch of famous faces were asked to make a giant biscuit, a classic bake, and a tough showstopper challenge – a choux sculpture depicting the celebrity’s perfect day.

And Louis proved he was just at home in the kitchen as he was making documentaries when he made Bake Off history.

He impressed with his cookie which was designed to replicate a pizza , and featured raspberry icing and grated white chocolate.

But while Paul’s handshake was sincere, Louis offered his hand to Prue, with the judge joking: ‘Why am I shaking your hand? I don’t agree!’

Noel then followed suit and joked: ‘Two handshakes…now three! This handshake means nothing.’

Nevertheless, Louis was chuffed with his accomplishment, and took to Twitter and penned: ‘Three handshakes. THAT HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE!!’

Meanwhile, others were more concerned for Louis’ health and hygiene following his skin contact with others amid the coronavirus outbreak.

‘Three handshakes for Louis Theroux…good job recorded pre-#coronavirusuk’ wrote one, while a second penned: ‘I hope Louis is going to wash his hands after three handshakes in a row.’

But despite his success in the first challenge, Louis was beaten to the judge’s star baker, with Jenny Eclair pipping him to the post.
