Spiral starring Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson has been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak


As the coronavirus outbreak continues to spread, another upcoming movie, Lionsgate’s Spiral, has been pushed back.

The film, a brand new chapter in the Saw franchise, starring Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson, was slated for release in theaters on May 15.

Director Darren Bousman announced the news to his Twitter followers on Tuesday, though there is no indication when it may be released.

‘As I am sure you have all guessed, Spiral too has feel victim of COVID-19. We have officially pushed our release date,’ the 41-year-old director began.

‘While I am excited for you all to see the macabre maddness we have in store for you, no narrative we could tell is worth the risk of endangering our fans & supporters,’ he added.

He added in another tweet, ‘While I am bummed you will have to wait a little longer, I am relieved there is time to deal with this virus and the effect it is having on our world.

Spiral follows Detective Zeke Banks (Chris Rock) who takes over a grisly investigation with his partner (Max Minghella), while working in the shadow of a police legend (Samuel L. Jackson).

They soon discover that the murder case is strangely reminiscent of a gruesome episode from the city’s past.

Spiral is just the latest movie to have their release date pushed in the wake of the coronavirus epidemic.

Paramount’s A Quiet Place II was pushed from its March 20 release, along with Universal’s ninth Fast and the Furious movie dubbed F9, pushed from May 22, 2020 to April 2, 2021.

Dates for Disney’s Mulan, MGM’s No Time to Die, StudioCanal’s The Secret Garden and Marvel’s Black Widow were also pushed.

Movie theaters in major cities such as New York and Los Angeles have been ordered to stay closed, along with bars and restaurants to help curb the virus.

AMC Theatres, one of North America’s largest movie chains, announced they will close all of their theaters for a period between six and twelve weeks, effective Tuesday.

Universal Pictures also announced that several of its movies that are currently in theaters, such as The Invisible Man and The Hunt, will be available on VOD formats starting Friday.
