Anthony Hopkins, 82, showcases his artwork and gives an update during self-quarantine


He’s opted to enter self-isolation during the coronavirus pandemic.

And Anthony Hopkins thanked his fans for their well-wishes as he gave an update after reaching day 10 of his voluntary isolation on Wednesday.

The veteran actor, 82, revealed in a new Instagram video that he’d been painting to pass the time, showcasing his impressive artwork as he did so.

Looking cheerful in a sky blue shirt and dark trousers, the Silence of the Lambs star addressed the camera as he revealed what he’s been up to while remaining in his home.

He said: ‘Hello everyone, well thank you for your generous compliments and well-wishes. As you see I’m in self-quarantine, I’m 82 years of age I’ve found lots of things to do.’

Addressing his pet cat, he continued: ‘For example, I played the piano for Niblo, he’s busy at the moment, he’s writing his memoirs!’

The star then went on to reveal one of the many activities he’s been doing while in isolation, adding: ‘I’ve also been painting, these are my latest paintings, just for the fun of it. I’m afraid Niblo does not really approve of my work, I think he’s probably a better painter than me.’

The camera then panned around Anthony’s art studio where his impressive collection of colourful art was revealed. 

Several fans of the star were quick to comment with messages of well-wishes, including fellow actor Andy Garcia who penned: ‘Be well Tony. Continue to inspire us.’

To which Anthony replied: ‘Thank you. My best to you and your family.’

Anthony’s update comes days after he revealed he was tasked with trying to occupy his pet cat Niblo, as he played the piano for the feline in a hilarious Twitter post on Friday.

The Meet Joe Black actor wrote that Niblo had demanded to be entertained during their household quarantine, and decided to amuse him with some of his music prowess.

In the hilarious video, Anthony kept his cat Niblo perched on his lap before launching into a pleasant piano tune.

He captioned the funny post: ‘Niblo is making sure I stay healthy and demands I entertain him in exchange… cats.’

Anthony is 82 years old, meaning that he feels into the category of people who are most at risk when it comes to contracting the virus.

A representative for the Oscar Winner told Page Six that he is currently well, and has opted to enter a ‘totally voluntary and preventative’ self-isolation.

His wife Stella also confirmed that the star is still feeling well, and that he has been staying at home with their cat ‘painting, playing the piano and reading.’

Much of Hollywood has entered self-isolation in recent weeks, as US coronavirus cases reached over 14,000 with 217 deaths as of Friday.

Elsewhere Anthony has reprised his role in the long-awaited third series of Westworld, which has also seen Breakign Bad star Aaron Paul join the cast.

The new season debuted on HBO earlier this week after a two-year wait from fans.
