Harry and Sandra Redknapp reveal they haven’t seen their grandchildren amid coronavirus lockdown


They’ve been in self-quarantine following the government’s calls for the over 70’s and vulnerable groups to stay at home to protect them from coronavirus. 

And Harry and Sandra Redknapp have told how they are dutifully following the guidelines and are not ‘breaking the rules’ as they’ve spent weeks indoors.

Appearing via video link on Monday’s Good Morning Britain, The couple have told how their isolation meant that they, like several families, have been separated from their beloved grandchildren.

Speaking to hosts Piers Morgan and Charlotte Hawkins, the football manager, 73, and his glamorous wife gave an update on how they’ve been coping in lockdown.

Harry said: ‘We’ve been fine, we’ve been doing a bit of fitness training. We’ve been taking the dogs for a walk, we’ve got to do it Piers, haven’t we? 

‘If it means staying in for the next six months, we’ve gotta to it.’

Sandra then went on to say that they’ve been doing ‘OK’ but miss their grandchildren, who they haven’t been able to see.

She said: ‘As long as we’re doing the right thing, I think we’ll be OK. But if we were to start going out or anything like that or mixing with the grandchildren – which naturally I’d love to see – and all my friend and family, but we can’t do it. 

‘So, we’ve just got to put up with it.’

Sandra and Harry have grandsons Charles, 15, and Beau, 11, whose parents are Jamie Redknapp, 46 and his ex-wife Louise Redknapp, 45. 

Reiterating that they are taking the government’s COVID-19 advise seriously, Harry added: ‘We’re in the over 70 group that have been told we’re at risk, so we’ve got to stay in.

‘We’re not going to take the chance; we’re not going to break the rules at any stage. We’re going to do whatever it takes.’ 

He added: ‘I used to talk with my mum and dad about when people were evacuating, this is nothing compared to that.’ 

Sandra then shared a glimpse into their home life as Piers asked if there was anything that Harry does to annoy her.

She responded: ‘Yes, it’s when he keeps shouting out “San! Can you help me send this message?”

To which Harry replied: ‘We’ve been doing a bit of boxing but Sandra tends to miss the pads sometimes.’

Being a football coach, Harry also shared his views on whether the current football season should be finished.

He said: ‘I would like to see them finish the season if possible, it just depends how long this goes on for.

Piers then said: ‘I think this will go on longer than government are saying. Will we stop next season starting and carry on with old one?’

With the I’m A Celebrity star adding: ‘I would like to see that happen if possible, I would like to see this season come to an end if possible. 

‘As you say, health is most important so we’ll have to wait and see.’
