  • Columbia University graduate Don Sorel taught for 38 years at California Collegiate Charter School for boys in Los Angeles, where he was head of the music department
  • He died on Tuesday, of coronavirus 
  • Megyn said oldest son Yates, ten, began to ‘love music’ thanks to the inspiring teacher

Megyn Kelly has paid tribute to her son’s music teacher, after he died of coronavirus.

Posting an emotional tweet, the 49-year-old named the teacher as Don Sorel and said ‘all of the kids adored him. 

The former Today and Fox News host wrote on Wednesday: ‘Our son Yates’s music teacher died yesterday of COVID-19. 

‘Don Sorel made Yates look forward to going to school, made him love music; all of the kids adored him. Telling Yates was awful. 

‘Pain for us is one thing; pain for one’s child is in a different league. RIP, Mr. Sorel.’

Columbia University graduate Don Sorel, 62, taught for 38 years at Collegiate School for boys in New York, where he was head of the music department.

Edward Yates, ten, is one of Megyn’s three children with husband Doug Brunt; he has eight-year-old sister Yardley Evans and brother Thatcher Bray, six.

Like many families, Megyn and her children and husband are holing up at home.

Megyn has been sharing recipes for home cooked meals, along with updates about the coronavirus pandemic.

She retweeted one of husband Doug’s messages this week, reading: ‘recent silver lining is that @megynkelly and I have picked up the show Parenthood and have been watching with the kids. @daxshepard is hilarious, @thelaurengraham is amazing, and the father-son scenes with Peter Krause are the most moving of all. Binging thru season 1.’

Megyn also shared a sweet note written by Thatcher.

It stated: ‘I don’t worry a lot. But if I have a worry, I talk to my mom.’
