Viewers SLAM Channel 7 for airing ‘cheesy, condescending’ coronavirus promo

Viewers SLAM Channel Seven for airing a ‘condescending’ COVID-19 promo featuring celebrities saying ‘we’re all in this together’ from inside their mansions

Channel Seven has received less-than-positive feedback for its new coronavirus campaign titled All in this Together.

In the promo, network stars including Sam Armytage, David Koch, Manu Feildel and Sonia Kruger share words of encouragement from their homes.

‘A message from our family to yours in this difficult time. Remember, we’re in this #together’, the network wrote on social media while launching the new campaign on March 23rd.

However, many Reddit users were left unimpressed, branding the saccharine promo as condescending, cheesy and tone-deaf.

‘We’re all in this together, they say. With their jobs, and their 5 bedroom houses, and their uninterrupted supply of disposable income,’ one user complained.

Another added: ‘It would make me feel better if the celebs were actually donating money to organisations and people in need instead of sitting on their wealth and saying ‘we’re here for you”.

Other viewers pointed out that, while TV stars are almost guaranteed to keep their jobs after the COVID-19 pandemic, many workers may not.

‘I’d love to stay home safe away from everyone but apparently my engineering firm job is ‘essential’,’ one viewer sneered.

Viewers also challenged the celebrities to put their money where their mouths are.

‘Actions speak far louder than words!’ one viewer raged.

‘Saying empty platitudes to be seen to be doing the right thing without backing it up with action is very transparent,’ they added.

Some users even likened the ad to Gal Gadot’s controversial rendition of Imagine.

On March 20th, Gal and her celebrity friends were branded ‘out of touch’ by publishing a video of them singing John Lennon’s iconic hit while in self-isolation.

While the A-listers were aiming to pull at fans’ heartstrings, social media users quickly slammed the stars for their cringeworthy display.

‘I don’t know how millionaires singing about ‘no possessions’ from their mansions is supposed to ease my anxiety,’ one user wrote at the time.
