‘We haven’t got Deliveroo out here!’ James Martin reveals he’s made over 3000 plates of pasta for his village during coronavirus pandemic

He’s been doing his bit for the nation during the coronavirus lockdown.

And James Martin revealed that he’s made more than 3000 plates of pasta to give to residents in his local village during the pandemic.

The TV chef, 47, explained that he’s used a pasta maker in his home to create the Italian treat from scratch after watching a heartbreaking interview with a woman in a Manchester care home who has struggled to eat due to the nationwide stockpiling.

James explained his kind gesture during an interview on Friday’s Good Morning Britain, explaining he wanted to do something to help the nationwide effort, and decided to put his cooking skills to good use.

The former Saturday Kitchen host explained he got hold of the ingredients with the help of a supplier, and has been using the pasta maker in his home.

He said: ‘There’s a lot more people doing a lot more than myself really, so I thought what can I do?’

‘So I grabbed a big pasta machine, grabbed whatever flour I could, eggs, and I thought I’d transform it into stuff.’

Holding up his enormous tray of pasta, James said he’d already made over 1,000kg of pasta from scratch and has been leaving it outside his home for residents to collect.

‘I thought I can’t go round the village and drop it off, and where I live is 8-10 miles from a supermarket,’ he explained.

‘So I put a post online come and collect it from a table outside and that was it it’s just taken off from there. Suppliers have been great to me sending me flour and eggs to make more.’

James also noted that he’s been inspired to get involved in the nationwide effort to help others during the coronavirus pandemic, after he saw a video of a woman in a care home struggling to find enough food.

He told GMB host Ben Shephard: ‘Everybody is doing their bit, the community spirit and all that sort of stuff, you haven’t got Deliveroo to deliver you takeaways out here.

‘You’re sat there you’re watching social media you’re seeing all this going on, we’re quite fortunate in the restaurant business to have an amazing group of suppliers.

‘They phoned me up and said we’ve got a load of pies to give away where do you want them sending, this piece came up on the local news, it was a care home up near Manchester, so they’ve got enough to eat now for a couple of weeks.’
