Cardi B tells Bernie Sanders she doesn’t ‘feel like it’s safe to go outside’ amid COVID-19


Cardi B is taking no chances when it comes to the coronavirus.

The Grammy-winning artist, 27, chat with former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders in a long-form interview on Instagram Live Tuesday, as the hip-hop superstar chat with the political about the virus and related political issues.

The singer, whose full name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, discussed with Sanders what kind of timeline to expect in terms of the country opening its businesses and certain services back up.

She said that as restless is she is to enjoy the outdoors, she’s tentative about going in public, as health officials advise maintaining at least six feet of distance from others in an effort the hamper the spread of the pandemic.

‘The thing is that people are still dying and catching coronavirus, and as much as I want to go outside – cause I want to be outside for the summertime … I just don’t feel like it’s safe to go outside,’ Cardi B told the politician.

She asked him of reopening, ‘So when do you think?’ to which the veteran senator responded, ‘Nobody knows, exactly, and it will probably be at different times and different places in the country, and it will not be all at once.’

Sanders, who dropped out of the presidential race earlier this month and has since endorsed presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden, said the return to normalcy will be a gradual one.

‘Nobody’s gonna turn on a switch and America returns to where it was,’ said Sanders, who Cardi B has pledged her support for in the past two elections.

The artist noted that she knows someone personally who is afflicted with the ailment and ‘in a very bad state’ and separated from relatives amid isolation patients remain in with the contagious virus.

‘It makes me sad that they cannot have their family around them – to nurture them, to hold their hands and say, “Everything is going to be all right,’ she said. ‘It’s really sad that some people – like, their last moments – they cannot even spend it with their families.’

The I Like It performer expressed her frustration with President Donald Trump – who she referred to as 45 – and how she feels he has politicized the issue with partisan shots fired at Democratic leadership.

‘One thing that baffles about No. 45 is that when this coronavirus news was hitting and everything, he just kept blaming that this was a move of the Democrats to make him look bad – honey, you don’t need the Democrats to make you look bad – you make your own self look bad!’ she said.

Sanders said that Trump ‘doesn’t apologize,’ ‘lies all the time’ and ‘blames other people,’ pointing at his recent jabs at the World Heath Organization.

‘What we’re trying to do now in Congress is go around Trump, make sure that our doctors and nurses have the equipment that they need, that we produce the kind of testing kits that we need so anybody in America can get the kind of tests they need when they need it,’ said Sanders.

On her livestream earlier this month, Cardi B said she was upset that the online enthusiasm people showed for the Democratic senator from Vermont did not bear out at the polls.

‘I don’t know if anybody told you, but the last time I got on live, I had a fit because I was so hurt and upset that you dropped out of the race and everything,’ Cardi B told the progressive firebrand.
