The Bill first aired on screens in 1983 and ran for a staggering 26 series and more than 2000 episodes.

Based on the lives of a group of police officers, it’s also known for being the birthplace of many beloved actors, including Keira Knightley, James McAvoy, David Tennant and Russell Brand.

At its peak The Bill attracted more than 10 million viewers, but ratings began to dwindle in late 2009 when it was moved to a post-watershed slot to allow for gritter storylines.

In March 2010, ITV announced that the Bill had been axed after 26 years on air, and its final episode aired on 31st August of that year.

The series has remained popular in later years, with reruns on numerous channels.
