Osher Günsberg reveals more details about the night he almost gambled an Australian Idol Logie… as former judge Kyle Sandilands admits he has ‘no memory of it whatsoever’

On Tuesday, Osher Günsberg revealed he almost gambled away the 2006 Logie Award won by Australian Idol.

On Wednesday, the 46-year-old shared more details about the crazy night in question, after it was announced the 2020 TV WEEK Logie Awards have officially been cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Bachelor host told The Kyle and Jackie O Show that it was Australian Idol’s third Logie win and that he was going to keep the gong.

‘I said I am not letting go of this!’ On Wednesday, Osher Günsberg spilled more details about the night he almost gambled an Australian Idol Logie. Pictured: Osher (middle) with Kyle Sandilands (left) and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson (right)

Kyle was shown a picture from the evening with Osher and co-judge Mark Holden on the red carpet, but he said he had ‘no memory of it, whatsoever’ and was curious to know what happened to the award.

Osher, who called the show, explained: ‘The statue goes and lives in a boardroom at the production company and no one ever gets to hold it… I’m like, “I am not letting go of this! I’m taking it with me all night”.’

He revealed he took the Logie to an afterparty where Jimmy Barnes was playing and even used the small statue as a microphone while singing on stage with the rock legend.

The Channel 10 host said that the award was used as collateral in a poker game.

‘At about four o’clock I took the Logie with me, I went home, and when I woke up, there’s a voicemail from Barnesy on my phone going, “Geez, mate you were having a good time.”

‘Now when Jimmy Barnes tells you, you were partying hard, you were probably partying hard… This was before I stopped drinking so I was going hammer and tongs.’

Luckily, Osher did not misplace the award as the production assistant, who he described as a ‘big, gruff bloke’, shirt-fronted him demanding the award.

The Channel 10 host said that was the last time he ever touched the award again.

It comes after TV WEEK announced that the 2020 TV Week Logie Awards won’t be going ahead due to the coronavirus pandemic.

‘We have spent the last few weeks discussing with our event partners what the TV Week Logie Awards could look like in 2020 while adhering to Government restrictions and working around the challenges of COVID-19,’ the statement said.

‘All parties agree the most positive outcome is to not hold the Logies, including public voting, in 2020, but to stage an even bigger event on the Gold Coast in 2021.’

The statement went on to say showrunners plan to hold a ‘bigger’ and more ‘epic’ event in 2021.
