Peter Andre says Emily has to spend 20 minutes disinfecting herself

Peter Andre praised the work of his doctor wife Emily when he appeared on Loose Women on Thursday via video link from home.

The 47-year-old said his wife has to disinfect herself for twenty minutes when she comes home from the hospital before she sees the children to protect them against coronavirus.

Host Ruth Langsford asked Pete how Emily, 30, is and he said: ‘We’ve got a good balance. Obviously while she’s not here I hold the fort and I’ve realised I’m not a school teacher.

‘She’s dealing with a lot’: Peter Andre saytold Loose Women on Wednesday his doctor wife Emily has to spend 20 minutes disinfecting herself before she can see her kids after work

‘My respect for school teachers has gone through the roof and I can’t wait for them to get back.

‘When Emily is home, she is full on – she wants to cook, bake, she’s a really good person. I’m a very lucky guy and I know that. When she’s there I say “why don’t you rest,” but she doesn’t want to.’

On Emily’s cleaning regime when she gets home from the hospital, Pete said: ‘She’s got to disinfect herself for 20 minutes.

‘She’ll come home, I don’t tell the kids she’s home. She comes in, she takes off all of her clothes – it sounds great, but what happens is she has to put them in the washing machine, wrap a towel round her, have a shower, completely disinfect herself.

‘Every time I say to her, “What’s it like?” – and this is why I respect her so much – all she ever talks about is people doing more.

‘Her Dad and Mum, they’re all on the frontline. She’s a good person – she doesn’t say a lot about what’s going on but I know she’s heavily exposed to what’s going on.

‘This is why I have so much respect for her, six out of eight of her family are doctors. She’s a good person she doesn’t say a lot about what’s going on but she’s dealing with a lot.

‘She leaves here at 7.15am and she’s back at 7pm at night, it’s not every day but the days she’s there, it’s pretty full on and sometimes she doesn’t see the kids at all.’

Saira Khan asked if Emily comes in from work and asks how homeschooling was going, and Pete said: ‘My wife has learnt to trust me. There comes a point in the day about 3 o’clock where I think, “If she walks in now, she’s going to have heart failure.”‘

Jane Moore asked Pete what he’s going to take from this and he said: ‘I’ve learnt I’m not very smart at homeschooling, I’m a better cook than I thought I was.

‘The main thing I’ve learnt is we’re never going to get this time back – as hard as it is for a lot of people, I’m never going to get this time with the kids running around, I’m learning new things.

‘In such a terrible situation, I’ve found a positive in it and that there’s always people a lot worse off and we’re lucky. They’re doing their school work and then they’re doing the breaks.’

Linda Robson asked what had happened to Pete’s hair, which looked slightly dishevelled and Pete said: ‘Emily did the trim on the sides and then I cut the top myself and as you can see, it’s not great.’

His daughter Millie said, ‘”Dad, why are you using craft scissors?” You’ve got to make do in these situations!’

‘It’s been an interesting time it’s been a challenge but I’ve been given the long straw, me being at home yeah it has its challenges but I am one of the lucky ones.’

Later on in the show, Junior, 14, and Princess, 12, came on air to say hello and graded his home schooling abilities:

Princess said: ‘He’s good, he’s just not very…’

‘OK lovely, thanks.’ Peter responded.

‘I would give him a C, D or E’ said Junior cheekily.

‘That’s coming from my 14 year old who like [puts on a thuggish accent] “yeah, you know what I’m saying bruv”.’

At the end of the show, Peter said: ‘Junior and Princess have been working really hard on their schooling, I feel bad doing that…’

Junior and Princess are from Peter’s marriage to Katie Price. He and Emily are parents to Amelia, six, and Theo, three.
