EastEnders actress Heather Chasen dies aged 92 as friends pay tribute to ‘wonderfully eccentric and gloriously funny’ soap star

EastEnders actress Heather Chasen, who was ‘wonderfully eccentric’ and ‘gloriously funny’, has died at 92 years old. 

Heather’s friend, Amanda Barrie, 84, tweeted about her ex’s death this morning. 

She said: ‘Remembering the fabulous Heather Chasen who sadly left us yesterday.

‘She was wonderfully eccentric, gloriously funny, and a very special actress.

‘There’ll never be another like her. 

‘Will always miss her.’

Amanda and Heather dated before the Coronation Street actress married Hilary Bonner. 

Heather was Lydia Simmonds in the BBC show EastEnders, Janine Butcher’s grandmother, from April 2011 to June 2011 before her character died on an episode. 

Heather has also acted in The Bill, The Harry Hill Show and Crossroads.

Before these roles Heather studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art with names like the Carry On legend Frankie Howerd.

Fans tweeted their tributes for the actress with one writing: ‘Sad to hear that Heather Chasen has passed away at the grand age of 92.

‘I discovered ‘The Navy Lark’ in the late 1990s through audio cassettes I found at the library and particularly enjoyed her performances as WREN Chasen and the ultimate battle-axe Ramona Povey. RIP.’

Another posted: ‘Aww balls. Lovely Heather Chasen has left the party. A regular in #TheNavyLark with Jon Pertwee and Leslie Phillips she went on to play superbitch Valarie Pollard in #Crossroads.

‘A proper jobbing character actress. 

‘You don’t get many of them any more. RIP.’
