Refunds for homeowners denied annual boiler services during lockdown

Refunds for homeowners denied their annual boiler services during lockdown

Many households were unable to get their the annual boiler services they paid for during lockdown

Households denied boiler services during lockdown may be entitled to a refund.

With emergency repairs and vulnerable customers prioritised, many didn’t get what they paid for.

Craig Haggart’s elderly parents had paid £227 for British Gas HomeCare cover but couldn’t get their annual service — then their premium was hiked by almost 10 per centat renewal to £245.

So Craig, 56, asked for a refund, to no avail.

But after Money Mail intervened, British Gas agreed to refund the couple £65 and discount next year’s premium by 10 per cent.

British Gas began offering services for non-vulnerable customers from June 1.

Homeserve says it is refunding any customers who had boiler services cancelled, while EDF is not offering refunds but says it plans to catch up on delays by the end of July.
