A couple who were missing the gym in lockdown revealed how they built their own fitness shed in the garden.

Jodie Leah Foulger, 34, and Andy Fernandez, 32, of Southend-on-Sea, Essex, spent £900 building the home gym so that they could continue with their exercise regime in lockdown.

Armed with wood from their local scrap yard and interior materials from budget stores including Aldi and B&M, the couple spent around three weeks crafting their fitness structure.

Jodie shared a selection of photographs documenting the process of creating their gym on Facebook’s DIY On A Budget UK.

She wrote: ‘This entire project was started and completed during lockdown by my partner and myself! Neither of us are in the trade. He was an avid gym goer and was missing the gym! So we built one.

‘We designed and built the whole lot with no help at all. It is a custom size and shape to fit into our garden. We are really pleased with it.’

Jodie revealed they bought wood for the structure from their local wood yard and brought second hand UPVC windows and French doors from their local scrap yard.

She continued: ‘Paint for outside for the summer house is Cuprinol Dusky Gem, UPVC windows and doors painted in Rustoleum universal paint slate grey.

‘Damaged windows covered with D- C Fix vinyl window covering. Large mirrors inside the gym Ikea online. Garden lights Screwfix.’

The couple brought a rug and gardening furnishings from Aldi, completing the project with a garden mirror from B&M.
