Carrie Bickmore announces a new range of beanies for her brain cancer foundation

She has raised $12million for vital brain cancer research over the years through her foundation, Beanies 4 Brain Cancer.

And on Wednesday, The Project host Carrie Bickmore couldn’t contain her excitement as she announced that her beanies were back in stock and ready to buy, after COVID-19 presented her team with some ‘unique challenges’.

The 39-year-old shared a picture of herself to Instagram wearing a beanie from her new range, as funds from sales go towards brain cancer research.

‘Our beanies are back!’ Carrie Bickmore announced a new range of beanies for her brain cancer foundation on Wednesday… after losing late husband Greg Lange to the disease

‘Our beanies are back. On sale July 14! We hope you love them,’ Carrie wrote.

‘Brain cancer survival rates haven’t changed in 30 years. Currently there is no cure. These devastating statistics won’t change unless more research is done.’

Last month, Carrie shared a video with fans and said that ‘corona gave us some unique challenges this year, but we are so relieved to have found a way to get our beanies on your beautiful heads’.

The foundation is special to Carrie, whose first husband, Greg Lange, died of brain cancer in 2010.

In June last year, Carrie told The Australian Women’s Weekly that she still feels Greg’s presence every day.

Carrie, who now shares two children with new partner Chris Walker, said Greg will always be an integral part of her family’s lives.

‘Anyone who has ever lost someone will tell you that they may not physically be there but they’ll stay in your life forever,’ she explained.

‘And Ollie [son Oliver] is so like him in so many ways. I often think, “God, I wish Greg was here so I could ask him how the hell to parent. Surely he’d have some insight”.’

She said her partner Chris is incredibly supportive when it comes to discussing Greg and keeping his memory alive.

‘You always bring your past with you into your future and that’s just the reality, that’s life,’ she said.

Carrie said she has come to accept that nothing in her family life will ever be ‘straightforward’ since Greg’s death, but she has made peace with that, as her mother and father brought her up to never aim for perfection.

Greg tragically passed away in December 2010 at age 35 from a 10-year battle with brain cancer.

Talking to Anh Do on his ABC series Anh’s Brush With Fame in 2018, Carrie revealed Greg’s diagnosis in 2001 shattered her world.

‘It was about a year after we moved to Melbourne. I think I was still 21 or 22 and he was about 25. He had a seizure at home and one thing led to another and they diagnosed him with a brain tumour,’ she tearfully explained.

‘It was just… in your 20s that is just the last thing that you can ever — I didn’t even really know anyone that had cancer, I didn’t know anything about brain cancer, neither did he.

‘It completely threw everything we knew, everything we had planned, everything we thought… it just threw everything on its head.’

Not knowing what the future would hold for them, the couple had their first child together, Oliver, now 12, in 2005 – with Carrie admitting it was ‘probably the greatest thing we ever did together.’
