Coronation Street cast and crew’s entrance to set is blocked by a gaggle of GEESE

The cast and crew of Coronation Street, including actress Samia Longchambon, saw their entrance to the set blocked by a gaggle of geese on Tuesday.

Pictures show soap stars including Samia, Tina O’Brien and Naomi Cooper Davies arriving to work on the Manchester-based soap, but encountered a poultry problem as the geese crossed the main road at the entrance to the set.

It comes as the soap resumed production with new social distancing measure in place after filming was suspended amid the coronavirus pandemic.

New images show Samia, who plays Maria Connor, forced to slow down and wait as the birds happily made their way across the road.

However, the actress saw the funny side as she watched on, even stopping to take a snap of the geese.

Meanwhile, Naomi Cooper Davies, who plays Gary Windass’s sidekick Sharon was seen arriving on set, signalling a return for her character.

Tina O’Brien, who plays Sarah Platt, cleverly managed to elude the geese however, as she appeared to make a slight detour.

Coronation Street resumed filming earlier this month after production was halted for nearly three months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As the actors return to filming, the plan is to make enough shows to continue airing three episodes a week to ensure the soap remains on-screen in July.

ITV bosses previously confirmed that older cast members will be kept at home during the first few weeks of filming.

This may be sad news for soap fans, as cast members who fall into that age bracket include William Roache (who plays Ken Barlow), Barbara Knox (Rita Tanner), Sue Nicholls (Audrey Roberts) and Maureen Lipman (Evelyn Plummer).

It has been reported that older stars may still appear via video calls, with a source telling Talk TV according to The Sun: ‘Bosses know just how important these characters are to their millions of fans.

‘And who wouldn’t love to see the likes of Ken, Evelyn and Roy taking part in a Zoom quiz night?

‘Or Tracy calling her dad and telling him how much she misses him. There are good ways to do it and that’s what they’re looking into at the moment.’

The new safety measures are in accordance with the recently issued TV production guidelines which will be observed whilst filming the top ITV soap.
