‘How is she an expert?’ Footy WAG Rebecca Judd is slammed after she blamed ‘a very small minority’ for Melbourne’s coronavirus resurgence

Rebecca Judd has sparked controversy for blaming ‘a very small minority’ for Melbourne’s COVID-19 resurgence and the lockdown that was reinstated this week.

On Tuesday, the 37-year-old footy WAG thanked those Melbourne residents ‘who have been doing the right thing since March’, and claimed it was ‘disappointing we find ourselves in this position because of a very small minority’.

However, not everyone agreed with the model’s description of the problem.

‘How is she an expert?’ Trolls have slammed WAG Rebecca Judd, 37, (pictured) after she blamed ‘a very small minority’ for Melbourne’s coronavirus resurgence on Tuesday

‘She’s neither a medic nor a political scientist. She really ought to just stick to matters and things she does know about.’ one fan wrote on Facebook in response to her post.

‘Why is this woman all of a sudden an expert? Get off seriously!’ another agreed.

Some people claimed that Rebecca’s comments were hypocritical, as she had seemingly ignored social distancing measures while partying with her friend Michelle Greene just last week.

‘She’s the one who was partying and not doing social distancing in Melb,’ one wrote, while another added: ‘Isn’t she the one out drinking and dining with “the girls”?!’

However, there were some that agreed with Rebecca’s sentiment.

‘Well, she’s not wrong!’ one supporter wrote on Facebook, while another concurred: ‘She’s right.’

The whole of Melbourne and Mitchell Shire north of the city was placed back into lockdown for six weeks from midnight on Wednesday, after Victoria had recorded 191 new cases of coronavirus – its worst figure yet.

Residents are only allowed to leave their homes for work and study, giving or receiving care, shopping for essentials and daily exercise near where they live.

Police will stop Victorians leaving or entering Melbourne with roadblocks and booze bus-style vehicle checks, effectively sealing five million people inside the city.

Panic-buying customers flocked to Coles and Woolworths supermarkets in Melbourne before the lockdown measures came into effect.

Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt has suggested that Victoria’s horror second wave could have been avoided.

Meanwhile, an infectious disease expert has said the outbreak could ‘definitely’ spread to other parts of the country.
