Gloria Hunniford brands Meghan Markle ‘manipulative’

Loose Women’s Gloria Hunniford clashed with Kelle Bryan on today’s show for branding Meghan Markle ‘manipulative’.

While discussing Prince Harry and Meghan’s new biography Finding Freedom, Gloria, 80, told that she believes Meghan, 38, is ‘loving’ life in Los Angeles and was ‘dying to get back to America’ after tying the knot with Prince Harry in 2018.

The broadcaster suggested that the couple had been ‘feeding information’ to Finding Freedom authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, but felt there was ‘nothing earth shattering’ in the book.

However host Kelle Bryan, 45, defended Meghan, suggesting that there has been ‘no evidence’ of Harry, 35, being manipulated by her, and commenting that her only crime is ‘underestimating the pressure’ of the royal family.

Gloria said: ‘At the beginning I really liked Meghan. I thought she was a breath of fresh air. She was different she had a lot of interests that Harry was interested in and I thought that was good. But over time I have sort of changed my mind.

‘I see the manipulation or what I think is manipulation. There is nothing earth shattering about this book, we have heard a  lot of it before and I don’t believe for one second they were not feeding information.’

The claims came in book Finding Freedom which provides an intimately detailed and personalised version of the events leading up to the Sussexes’ dramatic departure from royal life.

Co-authors Scobie and Durand have ‘all information in this book has at least two sources’ and deny they had a interview with Harry and Meghan, who also released a statement saying they had noy co-operated with the authors.

Gloria went on to argue that the couple look ‘miserable’ in recent photographs, and she ‘doesn’t know what Harry is doing in LA.

‘The name of the book is Finding Freedom’, said Gloria. ‘And I have the gut feeling they’re not finding that.

‘In every picture they look miserable, I don’t know what Harry is doing in LA, Meghan I feel is loving it, she’s already been back doing voiceovers and things.’

Kelle snapped back: ‘I think she’s doing voiceovers because that was her job previously. Obviously they’ve taken a step back from royal life and they are providing for themselves, so that is a job to do and earn money from.’

Gloria responded: ‘I would say she married the institution, she didn’t just marry Harry and I know she was a very successful television person, but I don’t think she can’t have it both ways.’

Kelle went on to defend Meghan further, arguing that the ‘only thing Meghan is guilty of’ is underestimating the ‘pressure’ that comes with marrying into the royal family and the ‘expectations that would be enforced upon her’.

She later added: ‘She is the first woman of colour in the royal family and I don’t think that goes without being said.

Gloria went on to claim that the American actress was desperate to get 'to the other side of the Atlantic', felt there were 'always' signs of manipulation throughout their relationship

‘When it comes to the pressure she’s gone through, for you to say she’s been manipulative, what evidence do you have of her being manipulative?’

Gloria went on to claim that the American actress was desperate to get back to America, and said she felt there were ‘always’ signs of manipulation throughout their relationship.

‘I always felt she was I think she was dying to get back to America and the other side of the Atlantic,’ she explained.

She added: ‘Maybe i’m old fashioned, there is so much information when you marry into the royal family and you can’t have it all your own way, but I do wish them well.’

Gloria also addressed the claims that Prince Harry branded Prince William a ‘snob’ after cautioned him not to rush into marrying Meghan Markle .

The claims, made in the book Finding Freedom, alledge that William told his brother to ‘take as much time as he needed’ to get to know ‘this girl’ Meghan ahead of marrying her.

Gloria said: ‘William and Harry went through so much with their mum and I always got the feeling William looked after Harry.

‘I think it would be natural in the family to say, because Harry had a lot of girlfriends in the past – some he was allegedly maybe going to marry. I think it’s understandable he would say “Are you sure about that?”.’
