Chris Pratt is called ‘insensitive’ and ‘tone deaf’ for promoting his new Pixar movie with a joke about voting

Chris Pratt is feeling some heat online after his recent joke about voting backfired.

While promoting his new Pixar movie Onward, the 41-year-old actor wrote a lengthy caption on Instagram talking about the importance of voting and encouraging fans to vote for his movie for this year’s People’s Choice Awards.

Given the timing, with less than a month until the presidential election, Pratt was accused of being ‘insensitive’ and ‘tone deaf’ as his message sounded political at first before he went on to call the awards show nomination the ‘most consequential vote in the history of mankind’.

Timing: Chris Pratt was criticized on Monday for promoting his Pixar movie Onward with a joke about voting

‘With all that’s going on in the world it is more important than ever that you vote,’ Pratt wrote alongside a promotional image of the animated movie.

‘Just ask any celebrity. They will tell you. Every day. Several times a day. To vote. But me? I will tell you EXACTLY who to vote for.’

‘The heroes before us did not spill their blood only to have their sacrifices wasted by your apathy,’ he continued. ‘The upcoming 2020 People’s Choice Awards is the most consequential vote in the history of mankind times a million infinity.’

‘Vote for #Onward for family movie of the year,’ he ended the note. ‘Or else. You WILL die. No hyperbole. Click the link in my bio. Let your voice be heard.’

At a time when a lot of stars are using their platform to discuss the importance of voting in the 2020 election, Pratt’s fans clearly felt he should be doing the same.

‘I get this is supposed to be a cute little joke but it comes off as really insensitive. The upcoming election is really important and everyone should vote and for you to try and take that and turn it into an ad for your movie is low.’ wrote one disappointed fan.

Another chimed in, ‘YIKES. Imagine the amount of privilege one person can have to write this tone deaf post.’ while another commenter kept it short, ‘I wish I found this funny’.

‘Haha what the f**k. This is super insensitive. Read the room. Oh wait you did and decided to mock people. Cooooooolllllll.’
