With Halloween fast approaching, some families are putting their Christmas trees to use early and transforming them into spooky ornaments.
Recycling the faux firs, Instagram users ranging from Essex to Ohio and North Carolina, have proudly posted snaps of the creepy makeovers they’ve given their yuletide decorations.
The bizarre trend first hit social media in 2018, with festive enthusiasts no longer content to just carve pumpkins to celebrate the October holiday.
This year, the Halloween statement is bigger and bolder than before, with people using plastic spiders, pumpkin lights and even fake blood to decorate their trees.
When it comes to what goes under the centrepiece, while there are no presents to be found there are still treats in the form of bowls full of sweets.
The traditional angels or stars usually found at the top of the decoration have also been replaced with a creepy alternative such as a troll or a witches hat.
Judging by the hashtag ‘Halloween Trees’ on Instagram and Twitter, which has thousands of uses, the trend shows no signs of diminishing.
