Ricky Gervais jokes about quarantine and how he ‘would fight an old lady for the COVID-19 vaccine’

Ricky Gervais jokes about being in the same seat since April while in quarantine and how he ‘would fight an old lady for the COVID-19 vaccine’

Ricky Gervais has reaped acclaim for his British black-comedy series After Life — which he created, wrote, produced and directed.

And on Thursday the funnyman showed off his timeless humor when he appeared virtually on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Acknowledging that they hadn’t talked to each other since last April, in an interview a month into the COVID-19 quarantine, the topic sent Gervais into a tangent about how he can move up higher on vaccine list.

Hilarious: Comedian Ricky Gervais joked about moving up the COVID-19 vaccine list in the UK during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday

Dressed casually in a black hoodie and black t-shirt, the English comedian appeared via video from his home in the UK.

Off the top, Fallon revealed that the last time they talked was on a Zoom call in April, about a month into quarantine.

Gervais wasted little time in showing off his witty humor by responding that he ‘hadn’t moved. I’ve been in this seat. Nothing’s happened, it’s like Groundhogs Day.’

‘In fact you might as well rerun the interview in April,’ he added, which set off Fallon into a loud laughter.

‘I’m probably wearing the same t-shirt,’ the 59-year-old added.

On a roll: Gervais joked about having 30 million people ahead of him on the vaccine list: 'How could I not be vulnerable; look at me,' he continued while pointing his finger at himself

After sharing some more laughs, the host pointed to the good news: ‘the vaccines are being rolled out and you’re on the list, obviously.’

Gervais agreed that’s he’s on the list, but then revealed that he had to register to get on the list because he hadn’t ben registered to any doctor because he doesn’t like to go see doctors.

‘You put in the details and it tells you where you are and there’s like 30 million people ahead of me,’ he joked.

‘How could I not be vulnerable; look at me,’ he continued while pointing his finger at himself. ‘It’s so annoying.’

The level of laughter stepped up when he declared: ‘I will fight an old lady for that vaccine, like Game Of Thrones. I would be like a deranged junkie. I will grab the needle right out of her arm.’

Another way in: The British comedian also garnered laughs when he admitted a weigh gain in lockdown could move him up the list because he would then be: 'high risk'

After a brief moment of contemplation, Gervais realized his laziness during lockdown will actually be his ticket to moving up the COVID vaccine line.

‘My plan is, in the next few months, I’m going to be clinically obese, so I will be high risk.’

He proceeded to demonstrate how he would walk into the doctor’s office with all the extra weight he had gained from lockdown by breathing heavily, all while contorting his body.

On a roll, he then took the role of the doctor and uttered: ‘Let’s get this fat f*** injected — he’s going to die,’ which had Fallon laughing hysterically before shooting back, ‘This is a bad plan. This is a very bad plan,’ he said while trying to hold back his laughter.

Season 3 of After Life is expected to begin production in April 2021.
