BUSINESS LIVE: AstraZeneca reports profit climb; Royal Mail revenues rise; Ted Baker sales fall by almost half

AstraZeneca has revealed annual profits more than doubled in 2020 thanks to strong performances in oncology and biopharmaceuticals helping to cushion the hit from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Royal Mail has said its quarterly revenue jumped 20 per cent on higher demand for parcels during the holiday season, and forecast annual profit to be over £500million pounds while expecting revenue above its prior outlook.

Pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca has said product sales grew 10 per cent in 2020

Ted Baker saw its quarterly revenues fell by almost half, as the struggling fashion retailer’s stores in Britain were shut during the latest coronavirus lockdown and due to weak demand during the Christmas season.

Demand for domestic UK holidays this summer will exceed pre-pandemic levels, according to a new survey from Mintel, who indicated that a total of £7.1billion will be spent on so-called staycations between July and September.
