‘I wasn’t well for the recordings’: Paul Sinha reveals he was too ill to film Beat The Chasers but assures fans he is ‘much better’… two years after his Parkinson’s diagnosis

The Chase’s Paul Sinha has revealed he could not film episodes of spin-off show Beat The Chasers due to poor health last year.

The comedian and quiz expert, 50, took to Twitter to confirm he would not be starring on the show but was feeling ‘much better’, in news that comes two years after he revealed he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. 

In his tweet to his 179.7k followers, he explained: ‘New episodes of Beat the Chasers are on their way. Unfortunately, I wasn’t well for the recordings and couldn’t join in this time around. I’m feeling much better now. X’.

He did not specify if the illness was related to his Parkinson’s.

Beat The Chasers is a spin-off of the main ITV show, which follows a similar format to  the main show however involves taking on various Chasers at once. 

Paul, who has been the fourth chaser, known as ‘The Smiling Assassin’, since 2011, stands among fellow quiz legends Jenny Ryan, Shaun Wallace, Mark Labbett and Anne Hegerty on the hit show however he revealed he had missed recent shows.

In May 2019, Paul was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease at the age of 49, after which he vowed to ‘fight with every breath I have’.

In a blog post at the time he said he was initially ‘in shock’, but ‘feels far more prepared for the new challenges ahead’ now he has a treatment plan in place.

Displaying he trademark humour, he also joked that a Dancing On Ice appearance is now ‘out of the question’, before thanking his family and fiancé for their support in the wake of his diagnosis.  

Parkinson’s is a condition in which parts of the brain become progressively damaged. The three main symptoms are: involuntary shaking (tremor), slow movement, stiff and inflexible muscles.

As the condition progresses, the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease can get worse. Parkinson’s disease doesn’t directly cause people to die, but the condition can place great strain on the body.

In December of the same year, Paul married his long-term partner, He took to his blog to announce the news about the big day where they wed in front of 38 guests and Paul sang a self written song.

He wrote on his blog about the details of the day, where they had a meal with 75 people and a party with 300, and while he admitted things went wrong he calmed down and realised he was ‘having the f**king time of my life’.

Paul went through the day in detail and rounded out his post: ‘Best of all, when I woke up the next morning, I realised: “I hadn’t thought about my Parkinson’s once.”

‘All I thought was how lucky I was to have lived a life where my friends and family are amazing. On to married life.’

In January, Paul proposed to Olly and revealed the news on Twitter when he announced that he had popped the question by penning: ‘I proposed today. He said yes. Thus starts yet another diet.’

The proposal comes two years after the quiz expert said in an interview with Guys Like U: ‘Marriage is not for me either. I am passionately in support of it but it’s not for me. I couldn’t put my Hindu parents through the rigmarole of gay marriage’.
