Kylian Mbappe’s mother has revealed that talks over a contract extension at Paris Saint-Germain are ‘going well’ – even though her son admitted he wants to join Real Madrid this week.

The French forward was sought after by Real throughout the summer with PSG snubbing two offers of £137m and £154m even though Mbappe had one year left on his contract with the French giants.

Real are expected to return for Mbappe in January – when he is able to speak to other clubs via a pre-contract agreement for a free transfer – and the Spanish club’s president Florentino Perez and striker Karim Benzema both believe the 22-year-old is set to move to Madrid.

Mbappe has also given two explosive interviews to French media this week confirming his desire to join Real earlier this year.

But Mbappe’s mother, former French international handball player Fayza Lamari, has revealed that contract talks are progressing well with PSG, though could not confirm whether an agreement will be reached.

Ms Lamari told French news outlet Le Parisien: ‘We are in talks with PSG right now and it’s going well.

‘I even spoke to (PSG sporting director) Leonardo (on Monday) night. But will we reach an outcome? One thing is sure: he will give his all right up until the end to win the Champions League.’

The mother of Mbappe’s comments appear to contradict the views of her son, who gave interviews to L’Equipe and RMC where he stated he is far from agreeing a new deal at PSG.

Mbappe revealed to L’Equipe: ‘What could make me stay at PSG? We’re far from it… since I wanted to leave Paris this summer. I’m not going to be the hypocrite, my ambition was clear. We will see what happens – my future is not my priority now.

‘I am attached to PSG, and if I had left this summer, it would have only been for Real Madrid. I continued playing in August and I had no problem with that. Why did I want to leave?

‘I thought my adventure was over. If I had left, it would only have been to Real Madrid. Leaving PSG was the next logical step.’

Meanwhile, Real Madrid striker Benzema added more fuel to the fire about Mbappe’s immediate future by stating his belief that his France international team-mate will be a Los Blancos player soon.

‘Someday he will play for Real Madrid,’ the Real striker said. ‘I don’t know when. But it will come. It’s just a matter of time.’

Real boss Ancelotti described Benzema’s comments as ‘great’ and that Mbappe would be joining ‘the greatest club in the world’.

And when Real president Perez revealed that ‘in January we will have news from Mbappe’, PSG sporting director Leonardo accused the Spanish giants of a ‘lack of respect’ to the French club by speaking about another team’s player.

Leonardo told L’Equipe: ‘This is another example of the lack of respect for PSG and for Mbappe.

‘In fact, in the same week a Real Madrid player, then the Real Madrid  and now the president talk about Kylian as if he was already one of their own. I repeat: this is a lack of respect that we cannot tolerate.’
