A mum-of-two who’s known for sharing her ‘genius’ cleaning tips with thousands online has revealed how to properly clean a toaster from the inside out.

Carolina McCauley, from Perth, shared a video with her collective social media following of more than 1.5million people and asked: ‘How often do you clean your toaster?’

In the short clip, she demonstrated how to clean the household appliance using a scrubbing brush, damp toothbrush and microfibre cloth.

She started by removing the trays under the appliance

She gave the trays a good clean using a bristled scrubbing brush and soapy water

Carolina first removed the toaster trays then gave each one a good clean using a bristled scrubbing brush and soapy water.

In order to clean the ‘hard to reach places’, Carolina used a damp toothbrush and cleaned inside the toaster. 

To finish, she sprayed vinegar onto a microfibre cloth to clean and polish the exterior.

The video has since gone viral and many admitted they ‘never knew’ how to clean a toaster properly.

‘I stopped using a toaster years ago because I didn’t know how to clean it,’ one person wrote.

‘Don’t forget to unplug first!’ another added.  

A third was in disbelief and said: ‘The amount of people that aren’t aware that toasters have trays is disgusting to be honest, I clean every two to three weeks.’
