Kristen Stewart reveals how being ‘extremely famous’ from the age of 18 and ‘feeling constantly watched’ helped her understand Princess Diana for her Spencer role

She rose to superstardom at just 18, when the Twilight franchise and her real-life romance with her leading co-star Robert Pattinson pushed her into the spotlight.
As such, Kristen Stewart has said the extreme level of fame she has experienced help her have some personal understanding of the pressure Princess Diana most likely felt as she prepared for her role as the royal in Spencer.
The 31-year-old actress told The Sunday Times: ‘It’s feeling constantly watched, no matter what you do. If you’re in public, someone in the room is looking at you at all times.
‘Even if they’re not, it’s at the back of your mind. That is a feeling you only have if you’re extremely famous. It’s a completely different approach to being a human,’ she admitted.

Kristen was turned into ‘paparazzi gold’ thanks to the vampire franchise, which made $3.3 billion at the box office, and had to deal with the added pressure of the internet and users’ obsessions.
But when asked about the comparisons between Diana’s fame and hers, she at first says: ‘The attention is something I can see a parallel in, but the cumulative expectation? Not remotely there.’
Kristen did, however, admit that it was ‘weird’ to ‘inhabit a space where people are disappointed in your choices’, before insisting she has tried to be a figurehead or a role model.
Spencer focuses on a fictionalised Sandringham gathering at Christmas 1991, when Princess Diana is at peak fame and about to split from her husband, Prince Charles.

The first trailer for the movie was released last month, with Kristen’s take on the late Royal’s accent heard for the first time.
Set in 1991 and set for release on November 5, the short clip saw the Hollywood star roaming the grounds of Sandringham Estate at Christmas time as her marriage to Prince Charles breaks down in the wake of divorce and infidelity rumours.
The script, written by English screenwriter Steven Knight, who has also written Peaky Blinders, follows the moments when Diana realises she needs to ‘veer from a path that puts her in-line to one day be Queen.’
A similar Christmas was just dramatised on the latest season of The Crown, for which Emma Corrin earned widespread critical acclaim.
Kristen rose to global prominence as Bella Swan in the film adaptations of Stephenie Meyer’s hit Twilight book series.
Around the time of the films – which were released from 2008 to 2012 – she also hit the headlines for her real-life romance with her leading man Robert.
She was infamously photographed kissing her then-married Snow White And The Huntsman director Rupert Sanders in public while she and Robert were an item.
Since then Kristen’s dating history has included the musician St. Vincent and the supermodel Stella Maxwell and she is now dating screenwriter Dylan Meyer.
