Tottenham fans react as Antonio Conte’s announcement is hilariously deleted after mistake

‘Only Spurs could sign someone like Conte and absolutely f*** the announcement’: Fans hilariously react after Tottenham accidentally unveil their new manager too early… and also in Spanish!

Tottenham have confirmed Antonio Conte as their new manager, but only after hilariously going too early with their announcement and then deleting the social media post.

With fans anticipating the confirmation of the new appointment, pictures of Conte holding a Tottenham shirt began to circulate around social media, after the club announced the news via ‘Twitter for Advertisers’, with the post getting just 387 likes in an hour due to the mistake.

To add insult to injury, the post was headed: ‘Bienvenido a Tottenham Hotspur, Antonio Conte’, a caption written in Spanish, not their new manager’s native language of Italian.

Tottenham accidentally announced the news of Antonio Conte’s arrival in Spanish, before swiftly deleting the tweet. It was also posted too early via ‘Twitter for Advertisers’

Tottenham rectified the error, deleting the post shortly afterwards and replacing it with ‘Buongiorno Antonio…’, after the highly-coveted manager signed a lucrative £13million-a-year, 18-month deal with the option of another year.

After a highly turbulent spell of late for the Tottenham fans, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s reign lasting just four months following the sacking of Jose Mourinho, the irony was certainly not lost on the fans.

One fan wrote: ‘The Spurs official admin has just deleted the biggest manager announcement in our club’s history, this is what Conte is joining.

Another wrote: ‘Only Spurs could sign someone like Conte and absolutely f*** the announcement.’

One neutral fan, who was clearly entertained by the rather unfortunate gaff, wrote: ‘It’s great entertainment from a neutral POV. Every single time you think Spurs can’t get any more “Spurs” they out “Spurs themselves.’

MailOnline exclusively revealed the news that Nuno had been sacked on Monday morning, before the club then confirmed the Portuguese’s unfortunate departure.

Tottenham are sat ninth in the Premier League table, losing five of their opening 10 games, including drubbings against Chelsea, Crystal Palace and most recently an under-pressure Manchester United.

Director of football Fabio Paritici swiftly moved and got a deal with Conte over the line, with the Italian already meeting the players ahead of their Europa Conference League clash against Vitesse on Thursday.

Conte came close to joining Tottenham this summer but eventually decided against the role due to concerns over the club’s ambition.

That same ambition was a key quality highlighted by Conte in his first official club statement, however.

Conte told the club’s official website: ‘I am extremely happy to return to coaching, and to do so at a Premier League club that has the ambition to be a protagonist again.

‘Tottenham Hotspur has state-of-the-art facilities and one of the best stadiums in the world.

‘I can’t wait to start working to convey to the team and the fans the passion, mentality and determination that have always distinguished me, as a player and as a coach.

‘Last summer our union did not happen because the end of my relationship with Inter was still too recent and emotionally too involved with the end of the season, so I felt that it wasn’t yet the right time to return to coaching.

‘But the contagious enthusiasm and determination of Daniel Levy in wanting to entrust me with this task had already hit the mark. Now that the opportunity has returned, I have chosen to take it with great conviction.’
