A clever mum has revealed how she transformed a pair of $7 Kmart sneakers into retro Nike look-alikes for a costume party.

The mum-of-three from Western Australia couldn’t find any vintage kicks to complete her outfit so decided she would have to make her own.

To create the vintage replicas the busy mum used a sharpie, highlighters and a pair of fluro green shoe laces, with stunning results.

She shared pictures of the shoes in a popular Kmart hack group where more than 5000 people congratulated her for her efforts.

The shoes feature fluro green, yellow and pink panels and a white tick, all outlined in black to create a 3D effect.

‘I actually thought these were retro Nikes for a second, takes me back,’ one woman wrote on the post.

Many of the Kmart shoppers said they would consider buying custom shoes from the mum and told her to ‘go into business’.

‘These are amazing they look like $200 shoes people buy for the same look,’ one woman said.

‘You should do this as a business, people would pay heaps for custom shoes and hats and this looks like the real deal,’ said another.

Others said the shoes were the ‘coolest Kmart hack’ they had seen.

Kmart no longer sell the exact shoes used in the hack but have a variety of white canvas shoes to choose from.

They range between $5 and $30. Other budget retailers like Big W have a similar range starting from $3.50.

Some of the DIY fanatics on the Kmart hacks page suggested people use acrylic paint to help the colour last.

Others recommended spraying the shoe with a sealer to stop the ink from running.
