Three influencer assistants have revealed how their very Gen Z job involves travel, freebies and flexible hours – but admit it can leave you feeling ‘very lonely.
In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Lucy, 23, from Manhattan, an assistant to lifestyle influencer Tina Lee, who boasts over 500,000 followers, revealed that she will probably follow in her boss’ footsteps – calling it a ‘Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian situation’.
Meanwhile Harmony Lu, 31, lives in New York with her two-year-old son and boasts 11,500 followers – while her boss Rachel Martino, a fashion and beauty blogger has almost 500,000. She started the job ‘making coffee’ and now counts video editing among her content creating duties – and describes assistants as ‘people in the shadows’.
Elsewhere Sammy lives in LA and makes $1,000-a-week working for finance influencer Amie Tollefsrud, who now boasts a seven-figure online business.

Lucy, assistant to blogger Tina Lee, has her own respectable following, at almost 30,000 strong, and hopes to follow in the footsteps of her ‘Instagram mom’.
‘I get paid more than my friends who are working for corporations in entry level jobs,’ she said, explaining that the flexible 10am- 4pm hours means she has time for freelance projects too.
Accustomed to staying at luxury Paris hotels like Le Metropolitan for free in return for a post, she added: ‘I think in the future, I’d probably end up being an influencer myself. It’s like the modern day version of Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian. [Tina] feels like my Instagram mom.’
However it also has its drawbacks, with Lucy admitting that you can’t take a day off as you start losing engagement and following she added that it can be a lonely job as not many people can relate – and there aren’t any networking events for people like her.

Meanwhile Harmony, assistant to fashion blogger Rachel, began the job with ‘mundane things’ like picking up coffee or organizing Rachel’s closet, before taking on content creation.
However she admits not being part of Rachel’s brand, and while she may feature in her stories or YouTube videos, she says ‘assistants are like people in the shadows’.
Joking that she is ‘never seen’, she added: ‘[Influencers] have to maintain [their] internet persona.

And Sammy, who lives in LA working for influencer Amie Tollefsrud, is happy to help her boss make seven-figure profit from her busines, taking home $1000 a month herself.
Sammy’s duties range from creating Instagram graphics and editing Amie’s podcast and YouTube videos,to looking after her Pomeranian dogs.
And while the trio may not have traditional jobs, in the ever-developing age of influencers it well become a common job.
